preschool
The Goal of the Campbell Music Studio's Pre-School Music Program with Felicia Campbell is to develop musical enjoyment and skills of pre-school children. Included are the development of rhythmic sense, pitch retention, singing, eurhythmics, reading of music, and familiarity with the keyboard.
Strong evidence shows that learning should begin by involving the student in experience before proceeding to abstract concepts. For example, young students come to understand rhythmic pulse quicker and more deeply through clapping, singing, and movement (all physical activities) before learning the reading of rhythmic notation. This teaching concept was strongly asserted by the famous developmental psychologist Jean Piaget. The Pre-School Music Classes are an invaluable foundation for both music appreciation and instrumental study, as well as general socialization and development of concentration in learning skills.
piano study
There are three cornerstones of the Campbell Music Studio's approach to piano instruction. All CMS piano instruction is given privately.
First, learning to read music fluently is one of the most important lifetime musical skills a student can master, so the development of good reading and analysis skills are emphasized from the inception of study.
Second, proper use of the body produces a piano technique free from fatigue, promotes faster learning, and makes advanced playing possible. The wide international experience of the Campbell Music Studio instructors as both teachers and performers enables them to teach a technical approach which has proven successful under the widest range of playing conditions.
Finally, the instructors use developmental psychology as a background tool for instruction of all it's programs. It is critical to teach material appropriate for a child's age, in a manner the child can comprehend, and to present it in a way that is fun and builds confidence.
music history & theory classes
The CMS instructors piano instruction includes music theory as a basis for music analysis and incorporates music history as an important element of musical styles.
campbell music studio equipment
Campbell Music Studio piano lessons are taught on a 7 foot Steinway Concert Grade, and a Steinway Professional K-52 vertical.
